Developmental
Editing
A big-picture review of concept, character development, voice, tone, pacing, structure, plot, and general readability. Best for complete and polished first or second drafts. Feedback may contain suggestions for rewrites or story development. Service includes a two-page summary with in-document comments.

Line & Copy Editing
A comprehensive review of each line in the work. Line Editing focuses more on craft: word choice, flow, voice, tone, characterization, etc. Copy Editing focuses more on technical accuracy: grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax, diction, clarity, consistency, etc. Best for complete and polished third (and beyond) drafts. Feedback may include suggestions for minor rewriting. Service includes whole-document markup and a one-page summary.

Proofreading
A high-level review of formatting, document styles, continuity, major typos missed during Line Editing, and any potential showstoppers. Best for finished work as a final polish before submission to agents or publishers. Feedback will not include line/copy edits, suggestions for rewrites, characterization, or story development. Service includes in-document comments and a one-page summary.

Not sure which service to choose or don't see a service that fits your goals? Let us know. We can tailor services to your specific project needs. For example, you might decide to combine Developmental and Line Editing, or Line Editing and Copy Editing. For an advanced manuscript, you might package all three (what we call our Substantive Editing package - a deep scrub with a premium polish). Advantage: you save when you bundle. You may also inquire about other à la carte services, such as fact-checking, cultural accuracy proofing, and retainer editing services.
